😳 That's a lot of roses....
Since I totally counted how many there were then immediately forgot, I said fuck it and dug through my WiP folders and found something I could share a nice chunk of that someday will get finished...maybe. It's from my Yugioh-World of Warcraft crossover where it's just YGO characters in the WoW universe (specifically the Legion expansion).
“Oooo...is that what I think it is!?” Ryou questioned, awed by the staff with purple tri-crystals beside Yugi. “You’ve heard of Aluneth?” “Of course I’ve heard of Aluneth! It was once a powerful Arcane entity that the Guardian Aegwynn bound to a staff. But how did you end up with it? Surely something that powerful would be locked away in the vaults of Dalaran!” “I could ask the same of you and your new artifact…” “So I have the skull and spine of an Eredar...that’s nothing compared to a legend that belonged to a Guardian! Your weapon is on the same level as Atiesh, and that’s currently being wielded by Archmage Khadgar himself!” Yugi didn’t think his new artifact was that impressive. Perhaps because of how long he’d studied under Archmage Khadgar, he didn’t think things like this were all that big of a deal. If anything, the artifact was a bit annoying. “I guess I can kinda see where you’re coming from. Personally, I would like it more if the thing would shut up.” “It talks?” “Constantly...and not in a good way. I opened up a portal the other day because I forgot something back in Stormwind, and do you know what it said to me? ‘Have you ever considered opening portals to other worlds? Such power is within your grasp child…’. I don’t know what bothers me more: The fact that it referred to me as a ‘child’, or that it’s even more of a demon’s advocate than you.” Yugi stated, leaning back in his chair while folding his arms across his chest.

After that video of Matthew Mercer I rb earlier, I need to fangirl for a minute OK? Ok. Sorry if this sounds like a bunch of French if you’ve never played World of Warcraft or Overwatch we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled wasteland shit posting and raging about gunners and thirsting for Paladin Danse and all that fun stuff shortly.
Just as a foreward - I’m sure everyone has that game that was like your first love. It has a special place in your heart, when someone talks about it you light up, you *know* it, you love it, even if you aren’t doing it anymore. World of Warcraft was that game for me. IDK if I burnt myself out on it or what, but playing isn’t the same any more and I have all these bittersweet, angsty feelings about it.
Anyway. So, Like 2 years ago the Legion expansion came out and all the different classes got these special OP super Artifact weapons which were unique to each class. Being a nerd for all Guardian-related stuff I was over the moon I was getting Aegwynn’s staff, Aluneth, for my Arcane Mage (even though its existence was retconned in for the expansion because Khadgar actually had the staff Aegwynn always wielded but ANYWAY). I started out the expansion with my Ret Paladin because that’s been my main forever and ever amen, also I needed The Ashbringer IMMEDIATELY, and then started doing stuff on my Arcane Mage.
And to my surprise, my fucking staff starts talking to me. The Ashbringer didn’t talk to me. What the fuck? After I stopped wtf-ing and wondering if The Ashbringer was broken because it didn’t talk to me (it’s not supposed to because it’s not possessed by an ancient, probably malevolent, arcane entity, duh) I very much enjoyed my sassy, power hungry mage staff that kind of hates everyone and talks shit when I make people food or teleport them places. Also that sexy voice doesn’t hurt :3
I think at one point I looked up who voices it and didn’t recognize the name.... until FFWD a couple years later I started playing ungodly amounts of Overwatch (gold border 1500+ hours on my main acct holla) and hey guess what!? My beloved mage staff’s voice is also the guy who voices hot cowboy Mccree, Matthew Mercer. I still hear “It’s hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh noon” in my goddamn nightmares and wet dreams. *sits a little cowboy hat on my mage staff*
So like 6 months ago, I picked up Fallout 4 because I was super duper into the post apocalyptic aesthetic (It’s because I’m a Junkrat main in Overwatch sorry not sorry and yes I’m gold trash) and I had been going too hard in Overwatch and wanted something with a story and to just maybe chill out on people being huge douchebags and too many of my friends got too serious about comp and I was like, done. Also I had played a fuckton of Skyrim and heard the mechanics were basically the same so I was down. And, as my blog description clearly states, fell in love with it.
Then, much to my pleasure and surprise, I discovered Matthew Mercer ALSO voiced a character in my new game too! Not just a character, a COMPANION! So I was like, I fucking love you Maccready, you sassy, money hungry merc that kind of hates everyone and talks shit when I do nice things for people - you kind of remind me of a mage staff I used to know (just for the record they don’t sound anything alike, but I’ll be damned if they don’t have the same general personality). It was a weird, like, my whole gaming journey of the last several years coming full circle moment. *duct tapes a little sniper rifle to my already behatted mage staff and hugs it*
So anyway, that’s my doctoral dissertation on why I love Matthew Mercer JUST SO FREAKING MUCH YOU GUYS there’s a special little Aluneth/Mccree/Maccready shaped place in my heart for him. And not only does he voice these characters that mean a lot to me from games that have meant a lot to me, he’s like a really genuinely cool and nice person. I follow him on Twitter and he’s delightful. Everyone I’ve known that’s met him has nothing but nice things to say. The man is a gift to several fandoms <3
